Cultural Competence Continuum

Students examine the cultural competence continuum and identify situations in their own lives or Australia’s history that reflect the various levels of competence. In doing so, they reflect on where they believe they are personally situated on a cultural competence continuum.

Connection to Country Incursion or Excursion

Through an incursion or excursion, students learn about the historical and cultural significance of the Country on which their school is situated, and about other culturally significant sites in their local area.

Collaborative Art Project

In this activity, with the support of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, students work together to create a shared artwork to display at their school. The Face the Facts education resource will help students understand issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. This resource complements the Commission’s 2012 Face the Facts publication, which provides accurate and easy to understand facts about these groups based on primary research information from a variety of sources.
